Statement by Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield on the UN Security Council Press Statement on Haiti
The United States applauds today’s United Nations Security Council Press Statement on Haiti, in which all 15 Council Members forcefully condemned the ongoing violence and human rights abuses – including kidnappings, murders, and gender-based violence – committed by criminal armed gangs threatening the safety and security of all Haitians. Council Members, encouraged by Kenya’s leadership and international donor support, unequivocally expressed hope and an expectation for the swift deployment of the UN-authorized Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission, which will bolster the Haitian National Police’s efforts to restore peace and calm.
